I LOVE cooking shows - the Food Network is one of my favorite channels (much to some of my family members' frustration). ;-) I enjoy watching Rachael Ray and, while browsing her website one day, I came across what looked like a delicious dessert - Oreo truffles! Does that sound incredible or what?! So tonight was the night I was going to make this lovely dessert.
It started out fine, until I came to.....the chocolate. Now I haven't really made much with chocolate when it involves melting it first. I'm notorious for messing things up in the kitchen, but I wanted to prove that I could make something and not goof up....so I was trying to avoid asking Mom for too much help - I mean, how hard can it be to melt chocolate in the microwave? Apparently much harder than I thought!
After leaving it in there for about 4 1/2 minutes, Mom suddenly said, "Something smells like it's burning!" I ran over to the microwave - yep, it was the chocolate! =) There was a bit of smoke, a horrible smell, and some very burnt chocolate. Needless to say, I did not finish the truffles.
But, rest assured, they will be finished tonight, as Dad and I ran to Fareway to get more chocolate - and I will not burn it this time!! =)
Anyone else have any funny (and possibly embarrassing) cooking stories to share?? Come on now - I told my story! ;-)
By the way, I found out later (AFTER this whole incident) that they have these handy little things on the back of the chocolate bag called DIRECTIONS for melting the chocolate! Who would've thought?? ;-)

Directions? What are those? =P lol hmmm what funny cooking stories do I have? =) Well, I was trying to heat up some water for some oatmeal and a few minutes later, I smelled smoke coming from the kitchen. I went into the kitchen and saw that someone had left a towel on the stove and a corner was on fire...oops! =O
Yummy! I love oreo truffles.
I'm having a giveaway! Check it out!

WOW!!! You're blogging again?!?!? :-) Goodness...funny cooking stories?! Well, this one might be funny to only those living in the South who make cornbread...(do y'all?!?) but one time I was making some and honestly thought I'd grabbed the cornmeal. I mixed it all up, put it in the pan, and a little while later as it was in the oven I had a horrible thought:
I hadn't grabbed the cornmeal. I grabbed the grits. Oh, yes, the GRITS. If you haven't had it, you ought to; the stuff's wonderful! But anyways, grits and cornmeal all come from the same thing...corn...and look pretty similar! Except for one important detail: cornmeal is yellow. :-)
Then there was the time we made chocolate chip cookies and suddenly realized when we checked them as they were baking that the chocolate chips had stayed in the middle and the batter was spreading further and further towards the edge of the pan. Yep, we left out a cup of flour. 'Twas quite a sweet, sticky mess! :-)
Thanks much for the update! And by the way those truffles are WONDERFUL!!!! :-)

That sounds like it would have been wonderful to see in person! lol...
Do you remember MY cooking experiences???
I tried to cook green beans for Mom when she wasn't feeling well. I put the pan on the stove and the green beans in and everything and went watched tv with mom and heard this bubbling noise. I figured the green beans had gotten good and hot and the water was boiling or something.....WELL, they got hot alright....The pan was melting and when I lifted it off the stove, POOF! fire! Oh my! There was smoke everywhere, fire from the stove and some very unedible green beans....
Apparently, microwavable pans are not meant for the stovetop!
Oh, to make things even better?....It was a pampered chef pan.
Hi there!
I'm 17 and homeschooled too and although I used to bake a lot I don't so much anymore now that I'm doing all of those hard highschool courses, it seems like I don't have time!
But one time, not so long ago, I was baking a "mud pie" which is like a brownie with nuts and whipped cream on the top and stuff. Well, anyway, I had taken the pan out, set it on a potholder on the counter, and then tested it for doneness. It wasn't done, so I grabbed another pot holder and put it back in the over.
5 minutes later: "What on earth is burning! It smells horrible!" Someone of course would never fail to let me know.
I pulled out the pan with a piece of burnt potholder sticking to the bottom of it. Oh well! At least the brownies were still okay. =)
Yum, oreo TRUFFLES!!! Ahh!
Hey, I just noticed the saying on your sidebar.
I'll revise it for myself.
"I'M the type of girl who will burst out laughing in dead silence about something that happened 3 months ago!"
Not kidding. Am I insane? I don't think I am, but maybe I am. Anyways. Ramble on and on, Lily....my stars!
